Harnesses, tethers and the deck layout

Prepare a whole-system discussion about moving around the boat while attached.

Assess the wearer, tether and attachment arrangement together with qualified advice.

01

Describe the movement around the boat

Explain the crew’s normal tasks and the areas they need to reach. Provide a deck plan or photographs to the supplier or an appropriately qualified marine professional. The purpose is to assess a complete arrangement, including attachment points and movement, rather than choose a tether in isolation. Conditions, boat layout and crew capability all belong in that discussion.

02

Confirm compatibility and instructions

Identify the exact harness or lifejacket and ask which tether products and connection methods its manufacturer supports. Check the instructions for both items and confirm the intended attachment arrangement with a professional. A product described as a safety line does not establish that every fitting aboard is suitable. Avoid making changes based solely on an online diagram or a photograph of another boat.

03

Include familiarisation and inspection

Arrange instruction appropriate to the installed system and the crew’s tasks. Keep manufacturer guidance and inspection records with the boat’s safety equipment information. Ask how wear, damage or an incident affects continued use of each item. Spinlock’s product and support resources provide a starting point for model-specific questions; this guide is a planning brief, not a tether rigging procedure.
